Beauty Obsessions by…Ashley Ashoff
I could have a million dollars, a full-time stylist, and Anna Wintour on my speed-dial and I still wouldn’t possess a tenth of the innate style of California-born, Paris-dwelling fashion designer Ashley Ashoff. Her sartorial sense has charmed everybody from Jean-Paul Gaultier to Bruce Willis, and she counts Kirsten Dunst as a fan of her mouth-wateringly beautiful scarves, which have been featured in Teen Vogue, Nylon, Daily Candy and New York Magazine. (She was also proposed marriage to about forty-three times after The Sartorialist posted her picture online.) All of her confections–scarves and ties alike–are divine, although I’m particularly obsessed with her Billet-Doux line. Ashley’s unique, whimsical style has turned her into a fast-rising star, so I quizzed her on the beauty products she uses to keep herself looking oh-so-chic.

SKINCARE: “SkinCeuticals is the only brand I have found that works for my skin, which is extremely sensitive with many allergies. The Correct line has great serums and I use their cleansers, tonics and lotions–the Clarifying Clay Mask is wonderful, too! Also an amazing product for the skin is Darphin Intral Baume. It’s great for people with sensitive skin and I try to use it a couple times a week. I put it on at night before I go to sleep. It’s really heavy and oily but by morning it’s absorbed and your skin is like a baby’s bottom! It makes your skin glow–I love this stuff.”
HAIR: ”Once a week, I do a hammam–aka steam room–and use 100% jojoba oil for my hair, which has done wonders after dying it back to my natural color. I have been using Senscience shampoo and conditioner for as long as I can remember–it’s impossible to find now but it’s the best. And Bumble and bumble Thickening Spray actually does give me thick hair after I blow dry!”
MAKEUP: “In the winter, when I have a big event, I use Laura Mercier Moisturizing Foundation, but for everyday it’s Bobbi Brown concealer and powder. As far as mascara, I’ve used Estee Lauder More than Mascara in Black since I was in high school. It is the only one that I have found that looks really natural with no clumping or drying out and it washes off without make-up remover. (My skin is too sensitive for makeup remover, so I like to be able to take it all off with the SkinCeuticals Cleansing Cream!)”
ALL TIME FAVORITES: “La Prairie blush in Peony; MAC Eye Pencil; Trish McEvoy’s eyelash curler (it’s the only one that fits my eye without pinching me!); Stila eyeshadows (I love their color palette because it works well with fair skin); Shu Uemura Satin Design White Tea Polishing Milk for smoothing and blowdrying hair; Savons de Marseilles soap (really great for washing delicates by hand. I wash all my lingerie with it); Kiehl’s baby lipbalm.”
BEST INTERNATIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS: From France, RoC Keops deodorant is great. It works really well, it’s scent-free and aluminum-free, and I’ve had no allergies to it. It’s a find! Another great oil the French use for skin and hair is argan oil, which comes from Morocco. it took me years of trial and error to find products that work for me, and these are the best!”
