My favorite new hair powders

I have no doubt it grosses out some people when I tell them I only wash my hair a couple of times a week. (Hey, if it works for the French…) Now, let me reassure you: I shower daily! However, the whole shampooing-conditioning-blowdrying thing is reserved for dirty days when my hair needs a rinse lest it run the risk of being declared a haz-mat site. Pourquoi do I do this? (Other than laziness, obvs.) Heat-styling and coloring take a massive toll on hair, so damaged strands like mine are further strained by the daily wash/dry routine. In between washes, I rely heavily on hair powders, which sop up oil, refresh a blowout, and give hair a cool Brigitte Bardot textured quality. (In a pinch, baby powder works, too, although this trick is better for the fair-haired.)

Two amazing new hair powder lines? Finley Hair Powder and The All Nighter. Both come in a myriad of colors to suit all hair shades (red! black! platinum!) and–bonus–both smell freaking fantastic. Finley’s powders have a flowery honeysuckle scent, whereas The All Nighter’s powders smell like clementines. Hair powder is an excellent addition to any lazy beauty gal’s arsenal, so I very enthusiastically recommend you check them out!

One I really like is from Schwarzkopf’s OSIS line… smells great, and gives fine-haired girls like me some extra texture. I use it even when my hair is perfectly clean, just to get extra grip.

Is there a good way to apply the all nighter one, without it being in an enclosed brush container? Sounds like a great idea for a video.

Did I tell you that you inspired my less-hair-washings? I LOVE not washing my hair everyday. I’ve been looking for a good powder. I think I’ll check one of those two out!
Thanks!

‘Love your blog but pleease do not indulge in nasty clichés. I’m French, I shower AND, surprise, wash my hair daily.
I know it’s stupid to feel offended while you were just joking/
Thanks, et sans rancune

Hi Littleparisienne! I’m sorry if that comment seemed offensive, it definitely wasn’t my intention. I adore France, and I was simply speaking from the experience I’d had with my French girlfriends who *rocked* day-dirty hair and didn’t feel they had to apologize for it.

I’ve used Finley myself and it is awesome – it gives my hair more body and texture, and you’re right, Nadine, it smells great!

I just have to post this. I have a client who is 85 years old and was about to have a melt down when her old hair powder ran out because her salon only uses Bumble & Bumble and their’s is a spray (which she hated). Finley hair powder is the BEST!! Even my little lady is happy with it!
