Costume Institute Gala at the Met 2009: The Model as Muse

CELEBRITY BEAUTY, FASHION 5

For the Costume Institute’s annual Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the 2009 theme was “The Model as Muse.”  (What does that mean?  I haven’t the foggiest.  I’m the idiot that skips conceptual art in favor of pretty flowerscapes.)  Regardless, there was some fabulous beauty and fashion on display tonight.  In another lifetime, perhaps I shall warrant an invite.  Dare to dream!

Yes, it’s a little Grand Ol’ Opry, but I’m seriously digging Anne Hathaway’s hair here

Lake Bell is so delightfully weird

And Leighton Meester is weirdly delightful! (Very Little Bo Peep.)  Ugly, but points for the effort.

I love love love Ashley Olsen here! Her face is just so perfectly bronzed and highlighted, and the soft smokey eyes look amazing on her. Anne Hathaway can do no wrong in my book.

For some reason, I’m not feeling Blake Lively. She doesn’t look very comfortable, and the slouch isn’t very becoming. As for Madonna.. wtf??

Ha, People called Leighton’s look “avant-garde.” I think that’s just the polite way of saying exactly what you did. And do you kind of feel like we’re just one pointy bra and some frosted pink lipstick away from Madonna’s material girl days?

I respectfully disagree with Gloria though – when I first saw Blake’s photo this morning, I thought she looked stunning. That color is perfect on her and the understated makeup is flawless. Perhaps you could share how to get such a flawless smooth ponytail? Whenever I try, no matter how much hairspray I use, I always end up with wispy flyaways or that ugly, unnatural greasy look from said hairspray.

Um, WOW. Ed Westwick looks HOT.

Kudos for the Rose Byrne shout-out! Are people watching Damages yet? The best show ever!

  5. That’s about the best Ashley Olsen has looked in a long time. Let’s hope she has faced her inner demons and beat them.
