Current obsession: Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain
Have you tried Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain? No joke–I’m in love!
At New York Fashion Week 2009, I attended the CVS Beauty Lounge, where Cover Girl makeup artist Jake Bailey was applying makeup touch ups. He went to town with my pathetic, rain-spattered makeup, somehow whipping me up into a glam goddess using nothing more than cream blush, mascara, and, yes, lip stain.
So, the Outlast Lip Stain was really what wowed me. I took a little tube home and have been slicking it on every few hours–not because the color fades, mind you, but because I’m that enamored of it!
My shade is 420, a plummy pink known as Sassy Mauve that kinda reminds me of two increasingly sexy body parts: a healthy pink tongue, and a pert…well, I’ll leave you to guess the other. Apply all over lips, and then slick on a lip gloss or balm. Your lips will be pink, juicy and rich with color for, I promise you, hours.

I really loved this when I first tried it, but the tube dries out so quickly that it didn’t last over a week.

Thanks, Erin! I will keep an eye out for that…kind of a bummer.

I have one in Everlasting Blossom, the color that Drew Barrymore wore on the ad. It is very pigmented and I definitely need some lip gloss on top.

I’m completely fascinated with stains, def have to pick this one up (I’m stuck on tarte’s stain/gloss duo)!

is there a trick to this? i bought one of these over the summer and it was drying and looked it so i put on some lip balm, let that sit a bit, and then put on the lip stain and it didn’t stay as well. maybe i need to just put some gloss on top. i may give this a whirl again.

This is a new must-try! I’m partial to Almay’s True Lasting Color lipstick (does NOT come off ever!), but that’s for a wayyy glam look. The stain is something I always have difficulty keeping on for some reason. I’ll give this one a whirl.

I’m actually wearing the same shade today! Love it! I have a couple others but they are very intense. This one looks more natural and everyday.

For Jenny: Stains must always be applied to completely clean, balm-free lips. Once the stain has been applied and dries, then you add a balm/gloss of your choosing. Stains are water-based and will not adhere to a greasy base of any kind. That said, although these CG stains are quite convenient for the makeup bag, they do not last long on the lips. I have virtually no natural pigment to my lips and I live for lipstains and this one is not the HG. However, the color Nadine uses is the best of the bunch!

Nadine, how did you find the cream blush? I’m addicted to MAC’s blush creme, but I was hoping to find a drugstore version since I can’t always afford the MAC.

Thanks, Nina! I bought some lip stain today (Sassy Mauve, actually) and I’ll give it another shot!

I’m glad to hear this has won your approval. I’m a long-time devotee of Benefit’s Benetint, but tried branching out to Revlon’s stain last year. I was so disappointed! It was sticky, and the stain did not last at all. I am looking forward to trying this one.

Oh how I had hoped for the same success with these! The price is so right, but no luck. My lips literally looked like they’d been drawn with a magic marker. Stila’s are a bit more user-friendly, but not as powerful. Here’s my review at beautybets: http://tinyurl.com/mqbt43
