Katherine’s love of Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare

katherine-bio-pic.jpgLondon Correspondent Katherine McKenney writes:

Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare is to me what Bare Minerals are to Jolie (beauty obsession!). Although I make most of my own beauty products in my “laboratory” (aka kitchen), when I feel like splurging on skincare products, I go to Liz Earle. Her products are a high percentage organic and she even employs a full time botanist (Jennifer Hirsch) to formulate new products that get the most out of Mother Nature.

When I recently attended an event at the Liz Earle Flagship store in London’s Sloane Square, I met Liz in person and was stunned by how amazing her skin looks. It’s dewy and glowing, and she could be the poster woman for an anti-Botox campaign!  Considering how inarticulate and babbly I was as I thanked her for helping change notions of beauty, you might have thought she was Brad Pitt.   In her book Skin Secrets, Liz talks about the different things skin need at various stages of life. She told me that she had to fight with the editor not to touch up any of the “models” who were actually just friends of hers–i.e. “real” people.

These are my favorite Liz Earle Products:

Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser – the most famous and revered of all of her products. This creamy cleanser is warming and you remove it with a muslin cloth and warm water, which helps to exfoliate at the same time. It comes in a special pump which doesn’t let the air back into the tube so that the natural ingredients are preserved (since there are no nasty parabens to do the job!) It leaves skin soft and clean but not tight and overly stripped like you sometimes experience with foaming cleansers that contain sodium lauryl sulfate. This is the only product that I will check baggage on airplanes for, since the bottle is too big for hand luggage.

Superskin Moisturizer – although intended for dry and mature skin, my normal to slightly oily skin sucks up this rich goodness and doesn’t get clogged or spotty. In fact I can use it morning and night as my only facial moisturizer. If feeling really extravagant I might smear it on my body, but Liz also makes a Superskin body cream. I can’t help myself, I like my products to multi task.

Superskin Bust Treatment – I use this treatment not on my bust, but on the two wrinkles I have on my forehead. It helps plump up the skin so that expression lines fade away quicker. My kind boyfriend lies to me and insists that I don’t have two wrinkles on my forehead, which is of course the correct answer. However I use it because I love the way it feels and smells (neroli and other natural goodness.) Plus I want to have Liz Earle’s amazing skin, so I’ll keep using it until she comes up with something new or better.

Katherine, is this stuff you can buy from Liz Earle or stuff you can teach to make?

  2. Anne Says:

Hey Katherine – the cleanser, does it come with a muslin cloth and is it re-usable? Thanks.

Hi Anne, the cleanser comes with 2 muslin cloths which you should wash frequently (a Liz Earle facialist recommended to me washing them after every use to prevent bacteria growing on them since germs love steamy shower settings). However, personally I tend to wash them every 2-3 uses, besides who wants to do laundry every day! Once you decide that you like the product (which I know you will) you might want to purchase additional muslin cloths. Liz Earle sells 6 packs but you can also try local health food stores. Happy shopping!
