When Kate met Michelle
Even though I logically know that The Duchess of Cambridge is no longer “Kate Middleton,” I understand the compulsion to keep calling her that. It’s simply easier! (Especially when you consider that nobody really seems to know what to call her, and the most straightforward usage–”Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge”–is actually the form for divorcees, as a reader rightly pointed out to me.)

Anyhow, there’s been a lot of news from Kate-land recently, but I obviously haven’t covered any of it because I needed a breather and a half after the wedding. As I’ve mentioned, I always sort of felt like Kate was mine (I know, I know–but I’ve been following her daily on Google Alert for nearly 4 years now!), and so I was particularly irritated as the media “discovered” her and recycled banal bits of common knowledge as if they were exclusives and earth-shaking news. Maybe now the general interest will die down, and we royal watchers can get excited about things again.

Such as! Earlier today, William and Kate welcomed President Obama and Michelle Obama to Buckingham Palace before the Queen hosted a lunch for them. It was William and Kate’s first official engagement since their wedding, and of course, the first since returning from their 10-day honeymoon in the Seychelles a couple days ago. (Reportedly, Kate’s parents covered the honeymoon costs, which E!Online estimates were $720,000. Holy hell.)
But let’s get back to Kate and Michelle’s meeting. Obviously, you want to know about the fashion! Kate wore a $340 Reiss dress, while Michelle Obama’s was by Barbara Tfank. Way to support the High Street, Kate!
Finally, I had to leave you with this image which I just stumbled upon. Didn’t see it anywhere following the wedding, but my eyes and ears were also bleeding at that point, so, you know…

Love that Reiss dress! Such a simple and classy look.
Princess Beatrice is pretty awesome. She definitely does her own thing and doesn’t care what the world thinks. My kind of gal!
