I probably won’t have time to write tomorrow, what with all the turkey shenanigans on this end (waking at 7am to roast a 20 pounder!), so I wanted to take the time tonight to talk to you all on the eve of my favorite day of the year.
Like many Americans, I would imagine, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I think it’s the purest one we have: it’s not about gifts. It not about “discovering” land that already existed. It’s not bound up by religion or war or other thorny issues. It’s simply about being thankful for what you have with people that you love, while eating a truckload of food.
What could be better than that?!
Here’s what I’m thankful for this year:
Boyfriend Jolie, who makes me giddy simply looking at him–and also claims, a la Bridget Jones, to like me just the way I am. (Gold star!)
Santa Monica, where I have the cutest, homiest, most livable apartment blocks away from the beach, not to mention the best, chillest roommate ever
Learning to cook! I think of all the years I wasting quipping that “the only thing I make are reservations” and I want to smack myself. Well, better late than never, right?
My ridiculously supportive family (especially Papa Jolie) and my incredible, hilarious, loving, silly, awesome friends (especially D., Ral, A., KSned, BritishAmerican Kath, J., M., RP…really, too many to count!)
I am sincerely thankful for all of you. I know that there are hundreds (Thousands! Millions! Seriously…millions? It often feels like it) of beauty blogs out there nowadays, and you guys don’t have to keep coming back to me. I’m no longer the only game in town. Much as I wish I could, I don’t post daily. I still have the old-school, desperately-needs-a-revamp blog format. Hell, I don’t even run ads any longer. But I hope that you read me because you know I will never knowingly steer you wrong. I value your time, I value your money (would that we were all billionaires!), I value your sense of glamour and wanting to live in the most beautiful, wondrous, whimsical world possible…I just plum value you. Big hugs!
I hope you have such a great day with your friends and families, or whoever you’re with, tomorrow.
Xoxo,
Nadine

Aw! Happy Thanksgiving to you! Thanks for being such an awesome blogger and always keeping it real!
Big hugs right back to you! Happy Thanksgiving eh from a Canadian.
Happy Thanksgiving! I seriously love your blog. Your posts are so charming, witty, and overall awesome. :) Definitely my favorite beauty blogger of all time. Your boyfriend sounds like a sweetheart btw! Lucky!
Happy Holidays :)!
i’m thankful for you! you’re definitely my favorite.
I saw that you mentioned learning to cook as one the things you were thankful for; did you mean you learned to cook well or that you really hadn’t ever cooked a full meal before? Because I’m 19 and embarrassed to say I cannot cook one bit! I’ve baked but I’ve never cooked before b/c I’ve tried literally twice in my entire life and failed so hard…LOL. So, how did you get into it and what helped you finally get to the point where you can cook a thanksgiving meal?!
I’m kind of discouraged and nervous about trying to learn at this point!
Happy Thanksgiving too Jolie! That’s a few perks of Thanksgiving though, few, wine, and gifts. And also the occasional mini celebration to celebrate it too, though that is pretty much uncommon now these days.
Awww, Happy Thanksgiving right back at ya! I don’t comment as much as I should, but I’m glad you do know that we’re still reading once in a while. It’s a no pressure zone here and I kinda like it that way.
@Leesha, I know what you mean, cooking is tough, dear! But keep trying, and don’t forget to have fun, eventually you’ll get the hang of it. As a start, try to focus on ingredients/foods you like. Cooking is really an art, there’s no exact science and thousands of ways to baste that turkey so it takes practice practice practice, like Nadine said.
It’s never too late so Happy Thanksgiving Nadine! Christmas is just around the corner so I must expect another celebration story from you eh?
You can count me in on the Christmas is my favorite holiday boat too, as I for one definitely am in!
