There are at least two more women who can claim they’re “worth it.”  L’Oreal Paris has named Frieda Pinto from Slumdog Millionaire and Evangeline Lilly from Lost as its newest spokespeople, joining recent addition–and burgeoning girl-crush–Elizabeth Banks.  Congratulations, ladies!

Golden Globes red carpet beauty looks

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Drew Barrymore: adore it.  She looks like the Queen of Candyland!  It’s romantic and soft and fun and unexpected and I just give points all around–especially for the retro hair, which I know some people hated.  Couldn’t love it more.

Elizabeth Banks: gorgeous!  The hair, the dress, the makeup – they’re all soft, flattering and utter perfection.  (And it looked even better in person.)

Kate Winslet: ahh, Kate Winslet.  You can do no wrong.  Sophisticated hair, strong brow, plus classic makeup equals red-carpet beauty nirvana, and the dress is to-die-for.

Beyonce: I was a little underwhelmed by pictures I saw earlier in the afternoon on Wire Image, thinking, “Eh, another photo of Beyonce looking pretty in a strapless dress,” but when I crossed paths with her, I was blown away.  Girl looked good.  Check out that makeup!  It’s a master-class on a bronze smokey eye.

Anne Hathaway: admittedly, she looks stunning, and I really like the fact that she’s pale and proud, but I have to admit that her look is just a smidge too severe for my tastes.  I would love to see less sleek, severely pulled back hair, and a softer lip.  She does looks regal and very poised, to be fair.

And, yes, the “What was she smoking?” award of the night obviously goes to Renee Zellweger, however, I feel the need to defend her.  Last night, I noticed something interesting.  Many celebrities who I thought looked bad from photos I’d seen online or on TV an hour before actually looked damn fabulous in person.  So, it’s entirely possible that Renee’s mirror and stylist thought she was being whimsical and risk-taking (which, c’mon, you kind of have to love and give points for, since nowadays, most red-carpet ensembles are snooze-inducing) and…um…didn’t realize how weird it looked on film.  Just my two cents.  Trying to throw the girl a bone here.

L’Oreal Paris’s newest spokesperson Elizabeth Banks, and Jolie

Monday, January 12th, 2009

A very, very special thanks to L’Oreal Paris (not to mention Total Beauty, who facilitated everything!) for this weekend, which was fun beyond anything I could have dreamed.  At last night’s party, I had the chance to get a photo with Elizabeth Banks, who is L’Oreal Paris’s newest celebrity spokesperson.  Elizabeth is so wonderfully nice, not to mention, of course, totally gorgeous.  I’m just happy that I don’t look like a horrible troll next to her!  (Notice Seth Rogen–so skinny for his upcoming role as the Green Hornet!–in the background.)

Seen and overheard from inside the InStyle/WB official Golden Globes afterparty

Monday, January 12th, 2009

After the Golden Globes last night, there were several parties in the Beverly Hilton, including a CAA party and an HBO party, but the place to be was the official shindig thrown by InStyle and the WB (yes, the WB still exists!  Who knew?)  Jolie staked out the red carpet for the celebrity arrivals, then headed into the party itself, watching the last 15 minutes of the ceremony by the bar while celebrities like Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Chalke, Eva Longoria and Debra Messing sat at tables watching the telecast.  Meanwhile, I was surrounded by some of the yummiest men in Hollywood, who also stood at the bar watching the show: James Marsden, Simon Baker, Dave Annabel, Bryan Greenberg, Chris Evans and Barry Watson were all surrounding me, inches away–so close, and yet so far!

As soon as Slumdog Millionaire won Best Picture, the lights dimmed, waiters swooped in to remove the tables, and the lounge became a dance floor as swarms of other celebrities entered.  Over the course of two hours, I saw, brushed shoulders with, stood at the bar next to, and walked by (okay, brace yourself!): Leonardo DiCaprio, Emile Hirsch, Kate Beckinsale, Susan Sarandon, Sigourney Weaver, Amy Adams, Amanda Bynes, Joanna Garcia, Olivia Wilde, Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Jon Voight, Rick and Kathy Hilton, Rachel Griffiths, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Steve Coogan, Grant Show, Minka Kelly, America Ferrera, Joy Bryant, Brittany Snow, Molly Sims, Taylor Momsen, Adrianne Palicki, Kevin Nealon, Sophie Dahl, David Boreaneaz, Skeet Ulrich, John Leguizamo, Yvonne Strahovski, Kevin Connolly, Hayden Panettiere, Adrian Grenier, and Megan Fox.  Phew!  (Later, inside the HBO party, I saw Jenna Fischer, Melissa George, Jon Hamm, Sophia Bush and Kevin Dillon.)  The celeb to “real person” ratio was 2:1 – I literally felt like the only non-famous person there.

Now, the fun stuff!
