Kate Winslet’s Lancome Globes Look

Monday, January 18th, 2010

My inbox is currently clogged with “Steal this look!” emails from publicists.  Following is the makeup look for Lancôme ambassador Kate Winslet, who I thought looked stunning and can do no wrong, beauty-wise, in my eyes.

The artist: Celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey (yes, Patrick’s wife)

The look:

Foundation: Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.

Cheeks: Avon Be Blushed in Blushing Nude

Eye liner: Jillian Dempsey For Avon Professional Kohl Eye Liner in Navy

Mascara: Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara in Excessive Black

Lips: For Kate’s matte lip, which she requested, Jillian topped lip liner with Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge in Rich Cashmere for a soft, pretty finish.

Best Looks from the Golden Globes

Monday, January 18th, 2010

So, the show was kind of boring (except for Ricky Gervais‘ occasional jaw-dropping introductions–hel-lo, Mel Gibson!) but we had a lot of risk-taking and thinking outside the box, which is always exciting.  Plus: boobs!  (The accessories that keep on giving.)  Here, my favorite looks!

My big-time girl crush Sandra Bullock (did you hear she just donated $1 million to Haitian relief?) in Bottega Veneta.  Yeah, she rocks.

Mariah Carey in Herve Leger by Max Azria.  I don’t love this look, per se…but damn.  Golden Globes, indeed!

Kristen Bell in Jasmine de Milo.  Fresh and age-appropriate.  Can’t wait to see her in When in Rome!

Julia Roberts wins the: “I’m Julia Roberts and you’re not, so I’m going to wear whatever I feel like, thanks” award.  And she still looks great.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Aniston goes the Anna Wintour route: she knows exactly what works for her, and sticks with it.  Black dress showing off the bod + bouncy blowout + caramel tan = classic JeniAni perfection.

I usually don’t understand the big deal about Olivia Wilde, but she looked gorgeous in her Gucci dress, and she’s auctioning off everything to raise money for Haiti, which is rad.

L’Oreal’s Golden Globes compact

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Every year, L’Oreal Paris gives the female Golden Globe nominees for Best Actress Drama and Best Actress Comedy a special, super-duper fancy compact.  Below is this year’s gorgeous offering, a 18K gold, diamond and lemon citrine Carelle “Harmony” compact–Kate Winslet and Angelina Jolie were, of course, among the lucky recipients–which is also being auctioned off for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund on Ebay (it runs through January 18th).  It’s valued at $3650 (hello, way out of my price range!) although the starting bid was $500.  Lovely glamour, if you can swing it!

Seen and overheard from inside the InStyle/WB official Golden Globes afterparty

Monday, January 12th, 2009

After the Golden Globes last night, there were several parties in the Beverly Hilton, including a CAA party and an HBO party, but the place to be was the official shindig thrown by InStyle and the WB (yes, the WB still exists!  Who knew?)  Jolie staked out the red carpet for the celebrity arrivals, then headed into the party itself, watching the last 15 minutes of the ceremony by the bar while celebrities like Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Chalke, Eva Longoria and Debra Messing sat at tables watching the telecast.  Meanwhile, I was surrounded by some of the yummiest men in Hollywood, who also stood at the bar watching the show: James Marsden, Simon Baker, Dave Annabel, Bryan Greenberg, Chris Evans and Barry Watson were all surrounding me, inches away–so close, and yet so far!

As soon as Slumdog Millionaire won Best Picture, the lights dimmed, waiters swooped in to remove the tables, and the lounge became a dance floor as swarms of other celebrities entered.  Over the course of two hours, I saw, brushed shoulders with, stood at the bar next to, and walked by (okay, brace yourself!): Leonardo DiCaprio, Emile Hirsch, Kate Beckinsale, Susan Sarandon, Sigourney Weaver, Amy Adams, Amanda Bynes, Joanna Garcia, Olivia Wilde, Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Jon Voight, Rick and Kathy Hilton, Rachel Griffiths, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Steve Coogan, Grant Show, Minka Kelly, America Ferrera, Joy Bryant, Brittany Snow, Molly Sims, Taylor Momsen, Adrianne Palicki, Kevin Nealon, Sophie Dahl, David Boreaneaz, Skeet Ulrich, John Leguizamo, Yvonne Strahovski, Kevin Connolly, Hayden Panettiere, Adrian Grenier, and Megan Fox.  Phew!  (Later, inside the HBO party, I saw Jenna Fischer, Melissa George, Jon Hamm, Sophia Bush and Kevin Dillon.)  The celeb to “real person” ratio was 2:1 – I literally felt like the only non-famous person there.

Now, the fun stuff!
