Grammy Awards 2010 Beauty: Miley Cyrus

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

miley-cyrus-grammy-awards.jpgMiley Cyrus is another contender for my “If you can’t say anything nice…” award that I’m really mistakenly applying to the person, not to the beauty look.

I do actually think her hair is awesome–love the highlights, love the messy waves–and her bronzey eye makeup displays her pretty eyes to perfection.  Could have gone a little lighter on the bronzer, though–she looks okay here, but in some other photos I saw, she was in Oompa Loompa territory.  On the whole, though, it’s fine.

Whew!  That took a lot out of me.

Miley Cyrus and Max Azria ink Wal-Mart deal

I was obviously much more excited about this photo than Max was

When Jolie first moved to LA, Max Azria became one of her big, cool friends, and she was lucky enough to be invited with him out on the town a time or three.  She eventually lost his phone number, and Max and his limousine became a thing of Jolie early-Hollywood lore, like the Josh Hartnett story, or the Sean Penn incident.  (Sigh.  Those were a fun few months!)  Adulthood, we rue you.

In any case!  WWD is reporting that Max Azria and Miley Cyrus have hooked up, in a manner of speaking, to produce a junior line for Wal-Mart called Miley Cyrus and Max Azria.  According to the report:

The trend-right collection will bow in all Wal-Mart stores and on walmart.com in early August, the sources said, adding the line will include tops, pants, graphic T-shirts and shoes, priced under $20.

Miley’s world-domination continues.

Madonna calls society out on ageism toward women

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

BellaSugar talks about Madonna’s comments last night on Nightline regarding aging.  She said, “I don’t think we just live in a sexist society, we live in an ageist society, connected to women.  I think women in an unconscious way are valued for their youth, youthful beauty, not so much for their wisdom and experience.”  See the rest of her comments here.  At 27, I hardly feel over the hill, and yet even I can sometimes feel a bit old compared to my early-twentysomething counterparts in the land of La.  It’s more exaggerated here in Hollyweird, of course, but when one of the biggest stars in the country is 15 year old Miley Cyrus, how can girls in their late twenties and thirties (who are beginning to–gasp!–show wrinkles!) compete?

The old guard — 80’s sex symbols Madonna and Sharon Stone in Cannes:

And the new — tweenage powerhouse Miley Cyrus
