New hair obsession: LiQWD Giveaway!

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Mama’s got a brand new bag.  To my list of all-time favorite beauty obsession lines (including Bare Escentuals, Nude Skincare, Lancome, JolieMD and Shu Uemura), I now add LiQWD hair care!

I discovered LiQWD a few months back, tried the products, and then was blown away by them, particularly the Volumizing line.  (Um, seriously.  Volumizing Catalyst?  Where you been all my life, baby?)  When Cameron Diaz showed up at the Academy Awards, her hair stealing the show, I wasn’t surprised to discover that her bouncy side sweep was courtesy of LiQWD (and stylist Lona Vigi).  So now, full disclosure, I’m working with them as a beauty consultant, hoping to help get the word out about this fan-freaking-tastic line.  That means you.

The entire line features Color-Safe Technology and Nano-Hydraspheres (next-gen nanotechnology), designed to help the ingredients more effectively penetrate the hair shaft, getting down to the inner cortex.  This equals volume and hydration from the inside-out, without weighing hair down, and longer-lasting color that won’t fade or wash-out.  Plus: the products smell ridiculously great, to the point where every review mentions the delicious scent.

Want to try LiQWD for yourself and see why I’m singing its praises from the rooftop (and why the bottles are taking over my bathroom)?  Help them get the word out, and you’ll automatically be entered into a contest this week to win the entire line!  All you have to do is follow @LIQWD on Twitter and then re-tweet “Want the best hair day of your life? RT to win the @LiQWD nanotechnology hair line and discover the difference for yourself!

One US winner will be chosen at random from the retweets next Friday.  Good luck!

Cleanser Review: Rare Minerals Renew and Reveal Facial Cleanser

Monday, March 16th, 2009

I’ve fallen head-over-heels in love with Bare Escentuals’ Rare Minerals line, especially the Rare Minerals Renew and Reveal Facial Cleanser.  In your hands, it’s a powder, but when you add water, it becomes a creamy paste that removes all traces of makeup, oil and dirt without any irritation or slickness.  I made a silly video after using it, below.  (Notice the redness all over my face?  It’s my rosacea, not to mention the pigmentation marks from previous breakouts that I use Bare Minerals to cover so well!)

My About.com interview

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

About.com juuust interviewed me on skincare; in said article, I share the fact that my father was an early, trailblazing metrosexual.  (The beauty genes?  Oh, yeah, they’re all from Papa Jolie.)  While rereading the interview, however, I realized that I made him sound like a complete fop; sorry, dad!  Read the full piece here.

Jolie is loving: Nude Skincare

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

I hesitate to report on any skincare products before I’ve given them a fighting chance to work wonders on (or wreck) my complexion, but I’m tentatively in love with Nude Skincare, which I’ve been tearing through for the past week.  The line, made of mostly organic and natural ingredients and recycled, biodegradable packaging, is a collaboration between Bryan Meehan, the creator of Fresh and Wild (the UK version of Whole Foods) and Bono’s wife Ali Hewson, and bills itself as ethical, biocompatible skincare that reduces inflammation and helps prevent aging by strengthening the skin’s protective barrier through pre and probiotics.  All the thought and care that went into making the line as green as possible is impressive, but I’m hardly a skin hippie, so what really sways me is how soft and glowing my skin looks after I use the luxurious products.  Yes…I think I’m a believer.

The Nude Selection Box is a great place to start: for only $38, you get all the bestsellers, including the Cleansing Facial Oil, Advanced Smoothing Complex, Miracle Mask, Moisture Balance and Hydrating Water.  (I am, by the way, obsessed with the Cleansing Facial Oil.  Obsessed.  There needs to be an intervention.)
