Fragrance Giveaway: Marc Jacobs Lola Velvet and Marc Jacobs Daisy Pop Art!

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Marc-Jacobs-Lola-Velvet-fragranceHow’s this for a cool giveaway? 2 beautiful new perfumes for the price of 1!

The lovely peeps at Marc Jacobs are pairing up with Jolie to bring you 1 bottle of each of their latest scents: Marc Jacobs Lola Velvet and Marc Jacobs Daisy Pop Art. Both of these fragrances are limited-edition for the fall and are available at Bloomingdales.

Moi?  J’adore Marc Jacobs fragrances. When I was a wee college senior working at FHM in the grooming closet, I came into the lucky possession of several Marc Jacobs scents (including the iconic gardenia-laced Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs original) and wore them proudly each day, convinced that dragging around a cloud of gorgeous, complex perfume–more than the soon-to-be-acquired diploma, more than the graduation from sophomoric pink wines to heady reds–was what truly signaled sophistication and adulthood.

Here are the deets for Lola Velvet:

Notes:
Top: Delectable bright pink peppercorn, seductive pear d’anjou and succulent ruby red grapefruit
Heart: Ultra-feminine and highlighted by lavish fuchsia peony with soft touch of rose and geranium
Base: Lingering on the skin and exuding a warm and seductive aura, notes of smooth vanilla, tonka bean and creamy musk envelope the skin

The collection:
Lola Marc Jacobs Velvet Edition Eau de Parfum Spray – 50 ML e 1.7 fl oz, $68
Perfumer: Calice Becker and Yann Vasnier
Fragrance House: Givaudan

Marc-Jacobs-Daisy-Pop-Art-fragranceAnd here’s the info for Daisy Pop Art:

A richer interpretation than the eau de toilette, the scent captivates with the luscious natural freshness of wild strawberry, then blooms with the modern vintage edge of velvety violet petals and a luminous blend of gardenia and jasmine. The white wood accords of birch and cedarwood is more intense, wrapped in sensuality and warmth.

The collection:
Daisy Marc Jacobs EDP Pop Art Edition – 100 ML e 3.4 fl oz, $88
Perfumer: Alberto Morillas
Fragrance House: Firmenich

Mary J. Blige, HSN and Carol’s Daughter launching fragrance

Mary J Blige My Life fragrance at HSN

Mary J Blige My Life fragrance at HSN

HSN and Mary J. Blige are launching Mary’s fragrance My Life exclusively at HSN this Saturday, July 31.

This is a fairly newsworthy deal for several reasons: primarily, because it’s the first time a fragrance is being launched through a multichannel retailer like HSN.  The beauty industry has gone through a lot of big changes these past couple of years, so I’m always intrigued when companies decide to take a risk and shake things up.

It’s also newsworthy, though, because it’s the 1st fragrance from Mary J. Blige (who I can’t believe doesn’t already have a fragrance!) and also the 1st celebrity fragrance to be developed by Carol’s Daughter.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN).

Get it for yourself by tuning in this Saturday, July 31, at midnight (12 EST).

Mary will be on-air live at 12AM–2AM, 7AM–9AM, 10AM-11AM, 1PM-3PM, 4PM-6PM, 9PM-11PM.

Mary J. Blige My Life eau de parfum retails for $55.

Jennifer Aniston at Harrods today for her new fragrance

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Jennifer Aniston’s new fragrance launches today, and to celebrate, she’ll be making a live appearance at Harrods in London, in the Georgian restaurant from 1-2 pm.

The fragrance was initially called Lolavie, which roughly translates from French to “laughing at life,” but has reportedly been changed at the last minute to simply Jennifer Aniston.  I think it’s a smart move. I wasn’t a fan of Lolavie as a fragrance name–and as far as branding goes, there are obviously millions of women who’d love to smell like America’s favorite friend.

The ads are decidedly sexy: the initial shots were of Jennifer on a beach in a towel.  The photos just leaked are even more spicy, showing Jen topless from the waist up.  All of the ads were shot on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Jen’s favorite beach destination.  (I went to Cabo about a year and a half ago and had a blast–it’s clean, American-friendly, and the beaches are gorgeous.)

According to Jen, the fragrance will smell “sexy and clean…floral but not too flowery.”  Unfortunately, it’s only available at Harrods (for the time being?) so I can’t wait to get my hands on this one and finally smell it!

How glam is this?!

“CHANEL is proud to announce that Academy Award winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese will direct the broadcast advertising campaign for their new men’s fragrance. French actor and rising international star, Gaspard Ulliel, is the face of the new line and will be featured in the ads. The new CHANEL men’s fragrance will be launched worldwide in September 2010.”

Chanel always gets it right with their lavish, luscious commercials, so this one is bound to be a winner, too.

Beyoncé Heat fragrance launches

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

beyonce-heat-fragrance.jpg Looking muy caliente, Beyoncé launched her new fragrance last night in New York City, a collaboration with beauty giant Coty called Heat.

With notes of red vanilla orchid, magnolia, neroli and blush peach, plus almond macaroon, crème de musk, tonka bean and amber, I somehow feel it will smell vaguely similar to Cacharel’s Amor Amor, a popular fruity floral musk from several years back.  I’m eager to check it out and see if my intuition is right!

The fragrance is available at Macy’s and retails for $49.

Marc Jacobs new fragrance Lola to launch in August

Monday, May 11th, 2009

marc_jacobs_lola.jpg

In the fall of 2001, I was a senior in college, newly inducted into the world of beauty through a job at FHM, the men’s magazine.  Men’s fashion and grooming was a very small part of the magazine, so I was able to cut my teeth, quickly claiming ownership of the grooming drawers in a corner of the fashion closet while writing pieces on men’s cologne, shaving methods and body products.  Somehow, I inherited a bottle of Marc Jacobs hauntingly gorgeous gardenia-laced first scent–and, hallelujah, it was for women!  I wore that perfume into the ground, dousing myself in it before every fraternity formal and Saturday night bar-hop, and to this day, when I smell it, I feel like I’m 21 again.

marc.jpg

Marc Jacobs second scent, Daisy, was nice, but not quite my cup of tea–too sweet and soft.  But!  This August, MJ is releasing a new fragrance called Lola, and I could not be more excited.  The press release describes Lola as a “sensual” contrast to Daisy’s “innocent and sweet” vibe, with pink peppercorn, pear d’anjou and ruby red grapefruit, a heart of fuchsia peony, rose and geranium, and a drydown of vanilla, tonka bean and creamy musk.  It sounds delish, and I’ll be first in line!
