If you’re plugged into pop culture, it’s everywhere you turn: Kristen Stewart…Robert Pattinson…Twilight frenzy…New Moon trailers…when will the madness stop?!   My knee-jerk reaction is to throw a quilt over my shoulders, boil a cup of tea and grumble on my front porch about kids these days as mewing cats circle my ankles–but surely I’m not so out of touch with those Twilight-loving youngsters (and oldsters…you know who you are!) that I can’t see the appeal.

So.  Kristen Stewart.

She’s pouty, she’s moody, she’s oddly pinched in the face, and she doesn’t appear to care how her hair and makeup look.  She’s totally different from the Hollywood Zombies currently being stuffed down our throats by paparazzi.

Wait a minute!  On second thought, she’s awesome!

Any girl who wears sneakers to an awards show is a hero in my book

I’m on the fence about R-Patz.  On the one hand: Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie = yum.  (Sure, I loathe the poorly-written book, but I can get behind a crappy chick flick about vampires any day of the week.)  On the other hand: Robert Pattinson is a little…well…bizarre looking.  And skinny.  And pale.  (Hey, just like a vampire!)  Have you ever heard of the French term “jolie laide“?  Much like the gorgeous-from-certain-angles Uma Thurman, Edward has a little of the ugly prettiness going on.

Celebrity photos are interesting, to be sure–no matter what the weeklies try to say, they are most definitely not like us!–but I find behind-the-scenes photos like the one below much more fascinating.  What madness!

Because, apparently, I am a twelve-year-old girl today, I’m swooning over these photos of Robert Pattinson (okay, and Kristen Stewart, who looks damn good, too–bedhead!) in Vanity Fair.  Twilight opens in just over a week, and while I’ll be there opening night to enjoy me a little vampire hotness, I’m still angry with Stephenie Meyer and whoever her publisher is for subjecting the world to the godawfulness that was that crappy book series.  (Seriously.  I returned to Barnes and Noble and got my money back.  I couldn’t even finish.)  Goes to show that coherent writing is all well and good, but it’s really all about the page-turning story–that, and the sexy-as-hell vampires, of course!
