Greetings from Duxbury, Massachusetts!

Nadine Jolie Courtney Duxbury

Hello from Duxbury, Massachusetts! E. and I are here visiting his mother, and we’re staying in a rambling old farmhouse that overlooks the bay: it’s absolutely gorgeous. My photos are few and I’m up against the clock with book edits, so here’s a sneak peek. This is a picture of the Boat House, as seen from our massive Kennedy-esque lawn.

Every morning, I wake up and go onto the porch with my cup of coffee and computer and am treated to THIS view.

Duxbury is about 35 miles south of Boston, and since it’s only about 10 minutes away from Plymouth Rock, many of the settlers–including Captain Myles Standish–were passengers on the Mayflower. Duxbury is known for cranberries and oysters (yes, please), and the houses are seriously gorgeous. I’m already plotting my future Christmases here.

While driving through town last night on the way to dinner at the Winsor House Inn, I had a line from Robert Frost’s Vermont-penned poem “Stopping By Woods On a Snowy Evening” running through my head:

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

It’s definitely not snowy here–the temps went up into the 80s yesterday!–but these Massachusetts woods are lovely, dark and deep, indeed.

More to come soon! (Thank GOD my website is back up and running. I acquired 2000 new spam comments in the meantime, though–ugh, ugh, ugh. If you commented in the past week, there’s a snowball’s chance in hell of me seeing it, so please re-comment!)
