I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream…

I was a total Disney baby, weaned on episodes of the old Mickey Mouse Club (with Annette Funicello!) and repeat viewings of Cinderella. Once baby brother Jolie came along, there was one movie that prevailed, playing 24/7 on our VHS player because he simply couldn’t get enough of it: Sleeping Beauty. He was 2 or 3 and I was 11, and it was a rare chance for the two of us to sit on the couch together and bond over a movie we both genuinely enjoyed.

Of course, at that young age, I preferred Aurora: she of the rosy cheeks and long locks and “What? Me? A Princess?” demeanor.

Now that the film is being brought back to theaters as a live-action version starring Angelina Jolie, however, I’m all about Maleficent.

MAC is releasing a limited-edition Maleficent color collection inspired by the film, and I just saw a sneak peek. It’ll be available online May 8th and will be in stores May 15 through June 26.

MAC Maleficent is a 14-item collection including Flaming Rose true red nail polish, True Love’s Kiss red lipstick, Maleficent eye shadow quad in shadows of brown, taupe, gold and black, and Beauty Powder in Natural peachy-pink.

Of course, this isn’t the first time MAC has gone down a darker path. A few years ago, they released the wildly successful Disney Venomous Villains collection, which to the day remains my all-time favorite MAC limited-edition release. There were Maleficent offshoots in that line, including a gorgeous violet beauty powder and wicked pearlescent blue/green eyeshadow duo. (I still actually use a few of the eye shadows from that collection. Shh. Let us not speak of their age.)

It’s rare for me to get so excited about color, but what can I say? Disney does something to me! (God help my poor children someday.)
